Zoë Sklepa

No Rush

curated by Vasilis Zografos

The artistic practice of Zoë Sklepa often begins with a desire, an emotion, or the intention to articulate a statement. At other times, however, its point of departure is something simpler yet decisive: an encounter with a material. The material functions not only as a medium, but also as a stimulus and interlocutor. It activates intuition, memories, emotions, and associations that emerge from everyday experiences, notes, and moments of observation.

She usually employs heterogeneous materials to construct her own objects, while at other times she incorporates ready-made elements, which she reframes through processes of assemblage, thus shaping a personal visual vocabulary in which each material carries its own references. Plastic, for example, evokes an aesthetic associated with pop culture, while fabric recalls memories of intimacy and craftsmanship.

In her works, objects remain recognizable while simultaneously undergoing transformation, opening up space for multiple interpretations. They often appear as fragmentary or hybrid forms, balancing between the familiar and the unexpected.

In the exhibition No Rush, at Vita Zita Studio, Sklepa approaches the exhibition space as a field of wandering. Everyday objects and their details are recomposed on a larger scale, shifting the experience from the familiar to the contemplative. Enlargement functions as a way of seeing things differently and lingering on them longer, discovering new aspects of them.

Through this shift in scale, the intensity of lived experience is transferred into the works themselves. At the same time, there emerges a tendency toward a return to childhood — to a state in which imagination, play, and the freedom of association become essential tools for understanding the world.

Within the installation space, the works are organized into a network of relationships that forms an open-ended narrative. In this way, a peculiar mythology takes shape, where each element functions as a point of reference.

The journey here is not only experiential but also literal. The viewer’s movement through the space becomes part of the experience itself. No Rush proposes a different mode of viewing: set against the fast pace of life, the exhibition invites the viewers to slow down, observe, and surrender to the process of discovery, navigating the space according to their own rhythm.
